I found a topic on the net about this and thought I could post it here to see what you have to say.

So What is your food you like to eat but don't really display because others might or has thought it grose?

Although I'm not ashamed to say it, it's beef intestines, a Mexican specialty. Of course they must be cleaned, fried, with some salsa and pico de gallo, then put in to tacos... mmm! They're especially delicious when they're nice and crispy, kind of like bacon. They're awesome, with a unique taste, though when you're eating them, there's no question you're eating intestines.

Sushi.

Post 4 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 19-Apr-2009 4:07:39

Lol! i heard both those were gross! Welll, the intestines are, anyway! Lol!
Tried sushi before, don't like it.
I used to make this snack that me and my brother used to call Sweet Crackers. It was saltine crackers with melted marshmallow and rice crispy on top. Mmmmmmm! Lol!

It's not much of a secret. A good deal of my friends know about my "secret food." It was actually a friend who dared my to try it back in eight grade. Till this day, I am reminded of it by my friends lol.
It's a pizza bagel, or regular pizza, topped with Vanilla Pudding! Chocolate pudding works too.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.
No, I didn't mind the dare one bit. And yes, I did like and still eat it once in a while.

Ash your food sounds good. As for me, don't remember how I thought of it, but it tastes really good to me, but a lot of people think I'm weird when I mention it, but jelly and cheese. You know those slices that come in individual packs.

The intestines are called thripas; and I like those also. *smile*
I can't say there's a secret food I really like, but there are some things I eat that I know my family thinks are weird or gross-looking to them. I usually like to try mixing foods that I think would taste good together, but to someone who can see it, it apparently doesn't look as good. One thing I've tried recently, is there was some fruit salad with whipped cream, and I chopped up some warmed-up barbicued wienies and mixed it in. It gave the salad an interest and not-too-bad flavor; I liked it. *smile*

Cottage cheese! My brother says all he can think of is curdled milk & it makes him want to throw up, but the rest of my fam eats it too. Lol.

Post 14 by HotPerro (I live and breathe the board) on Saturday, 02-May-2009 19:01:44

Here here on the cottage cheese reminding me of curdled milk, and bleu cheese is worse!
Raw oysters are good, with some lime, and hot sauce.

Doritos and cream cheese. Yum. I also love dipping my chocolate-chip cookies in milk and when it falls in themilk, I like to dig it out of the bottom when it's all wet and soggy and eat it that way. Yum!

In general, it sounds like none of us are ashamed of our choices. For me, I'd have to say cold hot dogs. When I was in graduate school, I'd take the busses home from college late at night. I might get home at around 11:00 p.m. I'd wabnt something to eat, and being tired, the issue was usually whether or not to heat up the hot dogs. I think this taste is genetic, as I have a brother who likes them, too.

I like cold hot dogs too. When I was little, I used to eat already cooked sausage out of the package and my mom would get so mad at me 'cuz that's what she had set out for dinner.

Post 20 by HotPerro (I live and breathe the board) on Tuesday, 05-May-2009 16:57:07

Mmm, I eat cold hot dogs all the time. I also love chopping them up, and frying them with my scrambled eggs, along with diced serrano peppers. Then I put them in a sandwich.

Wow, a lot of the stuff on here sounds really gross. But you'll be saying the same thing after you read this post. I eat a lot of food that my family thinks looks disgusting. I too mix any foods that I think sound good together.
I used to eat cold hot dogs when I was really little, about three or four.

Anyway, here's my list, enjoy!
1. chopped up pickles and strawberries in pickle juice
Sometimes I'll put in grapes instead of strawberries. When I put in both grapes and strawberries, I call it strapple.
2. Grapes in chocolate ice cream
Sometimes I'll put in chips instead of grapes, or I'll mix all three. And that's plain potato chips by the way.
3. Heated chocolate ice cream with plain potato chips smashed up in it
4. Plain chips in strawberry or raspberry yogurt.
5. Pineapples and Italian dressing
I tried this once by accident, and I really liked it. I had put a sub and a bowl of pineapples on the same plate, and I had put so much Italian dressing on my sub that some got into the pineapples. Yummalicious!

Grossed out?

Post 23 by Sword of Sapphire (Whether you agree with my opinion or not, you're still gonna read it!) on Saturday, 16-May-2009 21:28:56

Oh yeah! And I forgot that I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally like aligator. I tried it last October in Florida, and ordered an entire plate of it. Yummy!

Post 24 by HotPerro (I live and breathe the board) on Sunday, 17-May-2009 22:34:51

Yeah, pretty gross, except for the pineapple and Italian dressing, that'ssomething I might try. There's a burger joint a couple blocks away that sells alligator burgers, that sounds tempting.

I don't eat this regularly, because I just tried it just now, before getting on here. I was trying to make that food, where you make a whole in the bread and put an egg in the hole and fry it. But I just couldn't get it right. The first time, I fried one side of the bread and was going to drop the contents of the open egg on the bread, but I was too scared to do that, so I took the bread out and put the egg on it while the bread was on the spatula (the spatula was away from the pan when I put the egg on). I figured I could get it back to the the pan and get the food to slide onto the pan. But it turned out I somehow dropped the egg on the way to the pan. Then I tried the same thing with another bread but without cooking the bread first, and the egg ended up everywhere on the plate.
So, instead, I broke up the egg and several more eggs into the plate and made something like French toast without the milk or flavoring. Then I tore the cooked things into pieces, and warmed it up in the microwave with butter and cheese. It ended up tasting pretty good actually. If i had some smashed beans, I would've added that to the mixture too, but I didn't. Next time I feel like making whatever that was I made, I'll probably try that.

Post 34 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Sunday, 15-Nov-2009 17:57:40

Well I like green olives and dark beer; maybe some hard or hot cheese. And lately I've started eating something I assumed to be gross growing up; that's tinned fish. I used to think that had to be one of the more gross foods but now I get a can of pickled herring, sardines, all sorts of things. Have not done anchovies because you always hear they're dry and salty and nasty, but yeah the tinned fish thing is something I've started; my daughter finds it really gross ...
And for those of you who like Suchi, well I do too, but out here in the Pacific northwest the only thing weird about it would be you keeping it a secret; there's tons of sushi places out here. Try the Miso soup with it, and a bottle of Sake; that's really good.

Post 35 by season (the invisible soul) on Sunday, 15-Nov-2009 21:12:55

post 33: chicken feet aint meatty but its yum specially with the salse that come with it. if someone is keen, you can usually gets them in a typical chinese breakfast 'yum cha' place.

post 34: tinne sardines is yum, it have no different than eating tinne tuna or stuff like that. if you want to enhance the taste, try have it as a sardines sendwidge, its yummy. i grow up with that, cause my dad is an absolutely sardines lover, in fact, i prefer it than most other can food, as i consider myself someone that aint fancy pickled food.

as far as Suchi, goes, there's lots of different type of Suchi. if you aint keen on eating fresh rore seefood or particular, fish, try something that is cook or half cook, like teriyaki chiccken or beef, or some other stuff that is cook. when you gets use to it, try something else.

since not many likes Suchi, if i say sashimi is yum, might be grows for some of you then? it is definitely yummy. :P

I love hotdogs mixed with rice.. mmm

Post 37 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Monday, 16-Nov-2009 14:03:13

hotdogs with rice are great but even better chopped up in mac and cheese with some corn!!!!

i'm still mystified as to why potato wedges with sour cream are gross. i love them to. guess I'm gross.

tinned fish is great except for the codfish. that is very very very nasty. my dad used to eat sardine and saltine sandwiches. they were good. totally grossed my mom out which made them even better.

I like the idea of the cooked things in sushi. However, I'm sorry but the thought of eating raw fish makes me want to visit uncle ralph. gross!!!!! i work for NOAA which has the National Marine Fisheries service in it. some of my friends and clients are fish inspectors. this could be why i don't waht to eat raw seafood. some of the stories I have heard, well let's just say, i won't discuss it but you get the idea.

Post 38 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Monday, 16-Nov-2009 14:07:57

hey to the person who eats tinned fish. on new years eve, at midnight you absolutely positively must eat pickled herrings with your champagne. honestly, I don'ot do it but it's an old custom in my step mom's family. i tried it once and decided that i'd risk the bad luck. although i like the fish something about the taste with the wine was extremely weird.

One thing i love is fries dipped in ice cream or a milk shake. Mmmmm! And I also like cold spaghetti. If we eat spaghetti the next day I just take the leftovers out of the fridge and eat it. I also like meatball sandwiches cold.

oh I am going to go eat now.

Post 41 by SensuallyNaturallyLiving4Today (LivingLifeAndLovingItToo) on Friday, 11-Dec-2009 18:21:15

Some of those aren't gross to me, as they are accepted gourmet delicacies, such as blood pudding, thripa, or however one spells it, sushi, etc. I would try thripa or alagator from a good establishment, although the blood pudding and I wouldn't get along well, me thinks. Some of that is disgusting though, such as cold hotdogs and the highly processed cheese slices which are nasty enough on their own, but paired with jelly? Arg! Even though hotdogs are cooked, they still often contain some serious levels of bacteria, right out of the package, so i wouldn't eat them my self, give them to a child especially and honestly, I don't eat them anymore anyway because of the biproducts that go into them. Some of the things that people posted are weird, but logical, from the perspective of a culinary pallot though, such as pineapples in Italian dressing, as it would impart a nice sweetness. I would even go so far as to used crushed pineapple in home-made italian dressing instead of adding sugar and lemon juice and see how that goes with that providing the acidity of the lemon and the sweetness usually rellagated to the sugar. Pairing salty things, just a bit with sweet things, is a sign of a good palot in fact, such as the saltines with marshmallow, as a touch of salt helps deepen the complexity of a lot of desserts. no truly good mousse or dessert creme or tort is with out a bit of salt and or savory spice. Um, hotdogs cut up with beans and cheese is an ordinary dish that a lot of people eat, as is macaroni and cheese with tomatos. As to the potato wedges with sour cream, those are served in so many restaurants as appatizers, did you read the name of the thread, or just post at random, or, do you live under a rock? I used to drink dil pickle juice when I was a kid and when I was pregnant that started up again. I have a weird one. Not something that I like that other people don't, rather some thing that I don't like, that almost everyone likes. Frosting, I hate gobbs of nasty, gooey, too sweet frosting, and often bake a frosting-free cake just for me, as no one else likes it that way that I know. When I was younger I would put canned tuna fish or canned salmon onto those salt and vinigger potato chips. Fish and chips and vinigger, would still recommend giving it a try. Please do tell us about the fisheries, as someone who tries to eat organic and natural, it would be interesting to hear some of the horror stories you have heard regarding raw fish.

It's been years, but I've tried gator meat down in Florida...it's actually quite tasty; most of the meat comes from the animal's powerful tail.

Yes! Icing on the cake ruins the cake! The whip frosting is way better, or a nice, dark chocolate cover.

I like instant mashed potatos, made really thick, with a bit of catsup. Back in my school days, the potatos were thick and bland, but I found that putting just a bit of catsup on them made them perdy darn good!
